Stamp
Collecting
Stamp collecting is among the most popular hobbies
in the world. This renowned past time is the
accumulation of postage stamps and other related
materials like covers or envelopes that contain
stamps. Many stamp enthusiasts all over the globe
find this hobby very fulfilling as well as a great
collectible investment.
A philatelist is different from a stamp collector.
The former is a person who studies stamps, while the
latter merely collects stamps as a form of hobby.
Philately does not actually covers the collection
and study of stamp-related objects and other
collected materials. Most collectors, on the other
hand, enjoy stamp collecting even without closely
studying what they collect. However, when a
collector intends to accumulate stamps in a
comprehensive or large collection, then a philatelic
knowledge is required in such field. A large
collection of invaluable stamps are considered a
fine tangible investment that are easy to preserve.
Both collectors and philatelists see stamp
collecting as a formidable alternative to other
collectible endowments and arts.
Now that e-mail and other electronic means of
communication are widely used by millions of people
today, many are afraid that stamp collecting is soon
to be outdated. But then, since the early
revolutionary surrogates to postage mail, including
the telephone and the telegraph, failed to expel
stamps on mails, the passion for collecting and
studying stamps will definitely prevail against any
form of modern technology. Also, collectors are
interested not only in aged stamps, but in new ones
as well. With the hundreds of new stamps produced
each year, there will never be an end to the
collectible stamp treasures for all stamp lovers.
