Valuable
Stamp
Could there be any cute, single item in the planet
that is worth more than 2 million dollars? Well,
there is. The 2007 Guinness World Records has in its
record the "Treskilling Yellow" was relatively
priced at $2,240,000. The "Treskilling Yellow" is
known today as the 'Most Valuable Single Stamp' in
the whole world. This valuable stamp is from Sweden,
and it weighs 0.02675 grams or just 9 oz, which
gives it an even more unbelievable worth of
$USD85.98 billion for every kilo.
The "Treskilling Yellow " or 3 Skilling Banco was
discovered by a 14-year-old boy in 1885. Georg
Backman found out that a stamp dealer from Stockholm
was purchasing the first postage stamp of Sweden,
the Skilling Banco for seven Swedish kronor each for
a 24 and 3 Skilling Bancos.
When Georg visited his grandmother one Christmas, he
was permitted to went through her old letters. So
Georg removed all the stamps but found a lot of 4
Skilling Banco, which was the letter rate postage at
that time, and found only a single 3 Skilling Banco.
However, Georg still took the 3 Skilling Banco to
the Stockholm dealer named Lichtenstein.
Lichtenstein was surprised when he got a glimpse of
the stamp. However, he was a little doubtful because
the stamp was color yellow whereas the real color of
the 3 skilling was blue-green. No one knows the real
story why the 3 Skilling Banco became yellow.
Nevertheless, the stamp dealer still gave Beckman
his 7 kronor. From then on, the 3 Skilling Banco was
handed through different people including the
globe's most popular collector, Philipp la Renotiere
von Ferrary.
